How Can nausea And Fever Along With Abdominal Pain Be Treated?

My daughter is 34 years old and today just started on Lexapro which was prescribed to her by a board certified psychiatrist. Coincidentally she also started on a oral typhoid vaccine and anti malaria medication for an upcoming trip to India in two weeks. Today she is presenting with nausea, abdominal pain and a low grade temperature , generalized muscle pain and overall malaise. Are these normal side effects or should she wait to begin the Lexapro. Cam she take Advil for the muscle aches? She has no other health history and takes no other medication. She is an avid runner and an excercise aholic.

Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what your daughter had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, such symptoms can be due to recent vaccination and may spontaneously settle down in a day or two. For severe pain yes Advil can be used which will help with temperature as well.

However, if symptoms persist, and psychiatry medications seem to be the culprit, it may be stopped and serum LDH and CPK may be needed to rule out any such side effects of these meds.

Meanwhile keep good water intake.
